Best way to requeen a mean or large hive, just release her into the supers, supply an upper entrance, and once her first brood is sealed move her below the queen excluder and she will replace your old or mean queen naturally.
I don’t do any grafting. If I have a great queen I cage her in a jenter box and the hive will start supercedure cells which are high quality queens. I cage these when they are capped to prevent swarming before I release the original queen.
I collect them on emergence and bank them for up to 5 days before introducing them to their mating hive.
